INGUINAL HERNIA

What to Expect Following Surgery:

  • You should go home the same day.
  • You will have a dressing over the incision that can be removed in 48 hours. You will find steri-strips or black stitches on your skin. These need to remain intact.
  • You can shower after 48 hours over the steri-strips or stitches.
  • You may experience a hardness under the incision (a healing ridge), a black and blue incision, swelling of the penis or scrotum, burning or stinging in the upper or inner thigh. This is normal.
  • If you have not urinated within 8 hours after being discharged, please call our office 919.876.2010. This can happen with this type of surgery.
  • In addition to the above:
If you have a LAPAROSCOPIC hernia repair, you will have 4 small incisions. You may have gas pains and right shoulder discomfort. This is normal. Walking will help break up the gas bubbes and ease the discomfort. Some bruising near the incisions is normal.
