LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY
What
to Expect Following Surgery:
- You
will go home on the following day after your surgery.
Some patients are able to go home the same day of their surgery
if there are no complications. Your doctor must agree to let
you go home on the same day.
-
You will be prescribed pain medicine to take at home.
-
You may have gas pains and right shoulder discomfort. This is
normal. Walking will help break up the gas bubbles.
-
Men may have more trouble than women may since their abdominal
muscles have never been stretched, for example in pregnancy.
-
You will go home with 4 small bandages that look like white
gauze with a clear plastic tape on top.
-
You may remove this bandage after 48 hours. Underneath you will
find either black stitches or white steri-strips. These need
to stay intact. You may shower over the stitches and steri-strips.
-
Some bruising near the incisions is normal.
