What to Expect:

  • Preparation for surgery will be done at home.
  • Several days before surgery you will go to the hospital for blood work, an EKG, and other tests.
  • On the day of your surgery, you will need to be at the hospital 1 1/2 to 2 hours before your scheduled surgery.
  • Usually you will go to a room in the hospital after the surgery
  • You may or my not have a tube in your nose for the first day or so. It will be put in while you are asleep.
  • You will have a tube in your bladder for the first day or so. Again, this will be put in while you are asleep.
  • You may have a tube in your back to help with pain after the surgery. This will stay about two days.
  • You will be given a suppository the first day after surgery to help move your bowels. This may be done for a few days in a row.
  • You will probably start passing gas 2-4 days after surgery. When this happens you will be given liquids to eat.
  • You should be ready to leave the hospital about 5 days after surgery.
