KIRK B. FAUST, MD, FACS
Dr. Kirk B. Faust has been with Wake Surgical Specialists since 1988. A native of Atlanta, GA, Dr. Faust attended the University of Alabama where he graduated in 1978 Summa Cum Laude with a BS in Biology. He proceeded to the University of Alabama Medical School. He graduated Cum Laude in 1982. He completed his General Surgery internship and residency at Wake Forest University Medical Center where he was awarded the Bradshaw Fellowship.
His specialty interests include endocrine surgery (Thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery), surgical oncology (cancer of the esophagus, lung, stomach, pancreas, colon, and breast), and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He is the founding Medical Director of the Duke Raleigh Hospital Cancer Center. He is the only member of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES) in Wake County. He performs more than 300 Thyroid, Parathyroid and other endocrine related procedures a year. He was responsible for bringing intraoperative PTH monitoring to Raleigh. His recurrent nerve (vocal cord nerve) injury rate is 1%. His cure rate with Primary Hyperparathyroidism is 97.5%. He performs over 150 thyroid ultrasounds and over 80 Fine Needle Aspirations (FNA) per year.
He also has an active practice in surgical oncology (cancer surgery) with a special interest in breast, esophagus, stomach and pancreatic cancer. He was the founding Medical Director of the Duke Raleigh Hospital Cancer Center.
