JERRY A. STIRMAN, MD, FACS

Dr. Stirman graduated from the University of Texas, Galveston Medical School and completed his general surgical training at University of Oklahoma. His research fellowship at Duke University focused on surgical endocrinology. His areas of special interest include endocrine, thoracic and esophageal disease, and single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS). Dr. Stirman is a community leader in single incision surgery for gallbladder, colon, and gastric procedures. This allows for faster recovery, reduced scarring, and less post-operative pain.

DAVID C. POWELL, MD, FACS, RPVI

Dr. Powell completed his undergraduate and medical school education at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He finished his general surgery training at the University of Kentucky with interests in peripheral vascular surgery, venous disease, gastrointestinal, and hernia surgery. He is the Medical Director of the Duke Raleigh Hospital Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory. He is one of 10 physicians in North Carolina to hold the RPVI certification-Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation. Dr. Powell currently performs VNUS closure for the treatment of varicose veins.
His experience includes over 200 VNUS closure procedures for varicose vein therapy.

KIRK B. FAUST, MD, FACS

Dr. Faust graduated with honors from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He continued his training at Wake Forest University Medical Center in General Surgery where he was awarded the Bradshaw Fellowship. His specialty interests include endocrine surgery (Thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery), surgical oncology (cancer of the esophagus, lung, stomach, pancreas, colon, and breast), and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He is the only member of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES) in Wake County. He performs more than 300 Thyroid and Parathyroid surgeries each year.
His recurrent nerve (vocal cord nerve) injury rate is 1%. His cure rate with Primary Hyperparathyroidism is 97.5%. He performs over 150 thyroid ultrasounds and over 80 Fine Needle Aspirations (FNA) per year. www.endocrinesurgerync.com


D. SCOTT COVINGTON, MD, FACS

Dr. Covington completed his undergraduate and medical school education at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He trained at University of Texas, Houston in General Surgery. His areas of surgical interest include benign and malignant breast disease, complex hernia repair, and anorectal disease. He has recently taken a special interest in complex wound healing. He is the Medical Director of the Wound Healing Center at Duke Raleigh Hospital and the Regional Medical Director for National Healing.

JOEL B. DRAGELIN, MD, FACS

Dr. Dragelin received his undergraduate education at Dartmouth College. He attended Thomas Jefferson Medical School and completed his surgical training at Northwestern University. His special interests include reflux disease, breast and gastrointestinal surgical oncology, and advanced laparoscopy. He is the Director of the Multi-disciplinary Heartburn Center at Rex Hospital.

PETER C. NG, MD, FACS

Dr. Ng received his undergraduate degree from Davidson College. He attended medical school and General Surgery residency at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, where he also completed specialty post-graduate training in bariatric surgery. His areas of special interest include advanced laparoscopic surgery, bariatric surgery, complex hernia repair, colorectal and breast oncology. He is the Director of Bariatric Surgery for Rex Surgical Specialist.

YALE D. PODNOS, MD, MPH, FACS

Dr. Podnos received his undergraduate degree from New York University. After receiving his MPH in Health Care Management from Harvard University, he completed medical school and his General Surgery training at the University of California, Irvine. He received his Surgical Oncology Fellowship training at the City of Hope National Medical Center. His interest in surgical oncology focuses on liver, colon and solid organ tumors. He is the current Director of Surgical Oncology at Rex Hospital. Dr. Podnos is an Assistant Clinical Professor for the Department of Surgery at UNC

LINDSEY SHARP, MD

Dr. Sharp graduated from Duke University with honors. After completing his medical school and General Surgery residency at Emory University, he returned to Duke for a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. His professional interests include laparoscopic bariatric surgery, minimally invasive colon and rectal surgery, and complex hernia surgery.

GODOFREDO T. NG, MD, Emeritus
Dr. Ng founded Wake Surgical in 1974. After 35 years of service to Wake County, Dr. Ng retired in 2003. He continues to serve others through his medical mission work in the Philippines.
