THYROIDECTOMY/PARATHYROIDECTOMY
What
to Expect Following Surgery:
- You
will go home the same day if part of your thyroid gland is taken
out.
- You
will go home in a day or two if all of your thyroid gland is
removed or if you have a parathyroid surgery.
- If
you have a parathyroid gland removed or if you have all of your
thyroid gland removed, your blood will be checked to monitor
your calcium level. You may be placed on a calcium pill.
- There
will be swelling in you neck, but very little pain.
- Please
call our office, day or night, if you experience any numbness
and tingling in your lips or fingertips.
- An
ice pack may relieve some of your neck soreness and swelling.
- You
may experience some hoarseness after the surgery, for this is
normal.
